Stay-In-Place & 24hr Foundations

Stay-In-Place & 24hr Foundations

It can be easy to fall in love with these foundations when they give you a flawless look that lasts all day (even in the humid weather!)

But is that really what is best?

“I’ve encountered many clients wearing long-wear, stay in place foundations over the years. The problem with these products is that they act as a film over the skin. It takes several cleanses to cleanse long-wear foundations off the skin thoroughly. Everyone should double cleanse makeup off regardless, but I’ve found I’m still cleansing twice that amount when trying to get these products off the skin. Residual makeup still comes out of the pores when going on to do a microdermabrasion treatment. This speaks for itself. It’s all about educating the client about these products & other alternatives that are healthy for the skin. It is our largest organ after all, & we need to take care of it. The other marketing ploy to be cautious of is “dermatologist tested”. They don’t give the outcome of the test. What was the result? What were they testing? Did the dermatologist approve of the product to match the claim?” Rhiannon Delaney – Dermal Therapist

Most of these long-wear products contain harmful ingredients such as silicones, alcohols, fragrances, parabens & comedogenic (clogging) ingredients. These ingredients aren’t just unhealthy for the skin. Recent research suggests they may also be carcinogenic, meaning they can transform healthy cells into cancer cells.

Although these ingredients can make your skin look flawless on the surface, their long-wearing, staying power can wreak havoc on your skin underneath. You get in the habit of wearing it every day to cover up the breakouts without realising that it can be one of the significant contributors to your skin woes. It’s a vicious cycle!

What can you do instead?

1. Try a high-quality mineral makeup

Not all mineral makeup is formulated correctly. To find out what ingredients to look for & avoid read Terri Vinson’s blog Spotlight On Mineral Makeup: The Benefits & What To Look For here.

2. Get regular skin treatments to clear & balance the skin.

One of the most common reasons for wearing these foundations is to hide imperfections, so a treatment plan with a Dermal Therapist is the best option. Try & stick to monthly skin treatments (at least), & if on a budget, your best option is to look into places that offer skin treatment memberships. These can be extremely cost-effective as they break up the price into affordable repayments, & have your treatments planned & sorted for the year!
